Distraction Free Learning

Beginning 2025-2026 School Year

In response to new state legislation (HB 340) and the negative impact cell phones and other personal electronic devices have on student learning, Banks County Board of Education is establishing a policy prohibiting the use of all personal electronic devices by students in grades K-12 from the first bell at the start of school each morning to the last dismissal bell at the end of the school day.

Policy Highlights:

  • All students in grades K-12 must keep all personal electronic devices powered off and stored away in a bookbag or other designated storage area of the classroom during school hours. (School issued devices and devices necessary for meeting needs/accommodations provisioned in a student’s 504, IEP or medical plan are allowable and not impacted by this policy.)
  • Devices are not to be used at any time in restrooms or locker rooms.
  • Use on buses must not cause distraction or violate the Student Code of Conduct.

Violation of this policy will result in disciplinary action outlined in the Student Code of Conduct (including, but not limited to, confiscation, in school suspension and out of school suspension).

Let’s work together in this effort to prioritize learning, reduce student conflict and promote positive interactions.

Together we’re creating a focused, respectful and engaging learning environment for ALL!
